The Bishop of Catholic Diocese of Torit is encouraging commissioners to promote peace among the communities in the region.

Speaking after the mass in Isohe, Bishop Stephen Ameyu Martin says peace building needs perseverance, Radio Emmanuel report.

He encourages government officials to work closely with parishes in the area.

“I only want to say to Commissioners of ikwoto and Kidepo I know that you have really been working hard to make this place peaceful. You should know peace building is not like when signed on papers, what makes peace is the relationship between our communities,” the bishop emphasizes.

While Ugandan representative of police Fanden Wakaba recognized the struggle of the clergy from both countries in promoting peace.

He calls for free movement between natives of neighbouring countries without fear.

“For us in Uganda we heard news that in South Sudan things was different but what I got here is the same thing happening in Uganda, I would like also to give thanks to the parish priest for the relationship he has created between people of Uganda and people of Isohe. If it wasn’t for him we wouldn’t be here, the parish priest and bishop Kio man did well for co-operating south Sudanese and Uganda,” the official adds

Kidepo county commissioner Peter Lokeng Lotone calls for more catechists to join the various chapels in order to teach word of God to the community members.

“We are very happy that God brought you, we have a lot of issues with the church which is unsolved. I encourage my boys and girls, to join the seminaries to reduce the gab. Many priests deserted pastoral work for politics,” the commissioner appeals.

The speakers made the remarks during the feast of St. Theresa child of Jesus at Isohe Parish on Tuesday.
