The meeting between Dr Riek Machar Teny and President Salva Kiir Mayardit in Juba on Monday is “remarkable”, says Edmond Yakani Executive Director of Community Empowerment for Progress Organization or CEPO.

He calls on the two leaders in their face-to-face gathering to reach a political agreement.

“Finally that Riek has agreed to come to Juba and meet President Kiir and the other political leaders is something remarkable, we appreciate it and is something that we well-come. Our altimate goal in such meeting is, we need to see them reaching political decision that provides a consensus ground on the matters of the number of states,  matters regarding to the funding of security arrangement, in cooperation o the constitution in to the agreement and amendment of five security laws and also reaching a consensus on compliance with the 12th Nov to form a government to form a government because we tired of having a pre-transitional period that has no state institution to be held accountable. So we’re expecting from them very historical political decisions from the meeting and compliance with adequate funding to the security institutions to execute the security pending issues, Yakani adds.

Yakani expects Dr Machar and President Kiir to make a joint press conference to tell South Sudanese what they have agreed and the way forward.

“I wish that after the meeting, they should have a joined press conference as South Sudanese political leaders, where they can wave, shake hands and have smiling faces. Not that they need the former President of Sudan Bashir and Museveni to hold their hands in order to raise their hands up in front of the public, but today, let them do on their own. They should reach an agreement on regular meetings. So if they can agree to have it regularly in Juba here, it will be good. So we thank Dr Riek Machar for expressing a trust and confidence of coming to Juba, like what he did during the peace agreement. So this meeting should be successful and they should make joined press conference telling the citizens of South Sudan what they have agreed as a way forward with regard to transforming the country from violence to peace” He appeals.

The Executive Director calls for the implementation of the outcome of their meeting.
