South Sudan Red Cross in Torit State is appealing to the local population to voluntarily donate blood to save lives in the hospital.

Gale Betty Alphonse, Project Officer for blood donor recruitment and first aid says they are conducting the blood donation to help the suffering population in the hospital, Radio Emmanuel reports.

She says the donation will also help children and pregnant mothers during surgical operation and delivery.

“We are conducting voluntarily blood donation, this donation we are conducting here is because here we have enough population who have come here, people who have not heard about blood donation Who have not even seen they are here we wanted them to share and also participate in voluntarily blood donation. This donation is done to help our children our mothers those one in surgical ward who are lacking blood to transfuse them because some people don’t have relatives around Torit county so when they are in hospital here they need blood when they are sick so this blood will not come from somewhere but it is our community who can help”, Betty says.

The officer explains that they take 500 millilitres per person and before donating blood, the HB blood level is examined to know whether the blood volume is above 10 to qualify donation.

Meanwhile Marlin Louis, who gave blood, says the donation is to save life and help the sick to reduce death rates in the state.

She appeals to people to provide blood and that donating blood has no negative impact instead improves one’s health.

The speakers made the remark to Radio Emmanuel in an interview at the Torit Freedom Square last week.
