Human rights activist calls for immediate removal of roadblocks and checkpoints along Kaya-Yei–Juba highways.

Benson Khemis Soro says the revitalized agreement provision of protection of civilians and opens corridors for humanitarian workers, seems to be only in paper.

He explains that only 37 miles from Yei to Lainya have seven roadblocks which are controlled by unidentified people in army uniforms without description.

The Agreement tells the military personnel to vacate public places like schools, churches, mosques, markets, but it does not talk of deployment of armies on highways to create roadblocks, but cantonment areas, says Khemis.

The present of the armies on the highway is posing threat to travelling civilians and it seems to be a systematic exploitation of the inhabitants who need more help from the agreement than soldiers who have provision in the agreement, the activist explains.

The activist asks the state government to protect the remaining citizens by ensuring free movement of the people as provided in the agreement.

Khemis calls all parties to the agreement to respect the document especially the security arrangements.
