The National Ministry of Health in collaboration with UN agencies, donors and other operational partners are expected Thursday to launch the new six-month plan for Ebola preparedness and prevention in South Sudan.

The ministry in a statement says the event will take place at Public Health Emergency Operation Centre also known as the Blood Bank in Juba.

The plan is covering April and September 2019, building on achievements under the previous plan from August 2018 to March 2019.

It identifies prioritized activities and commensurate financial requirements to strengthen a coordinated and effective preparedness effort.

The ministry cautions that the risk of the disease spreading to South Sudan is assessed as very high.

UN Humanitarian Coordinator Alain Noudehou Minister of Health Dr Riek Gai Kok will address the event.

Dr Richard Loku, Incident Manager of the Ministry of Health will present the new six-month-plan for Ebola preparedness and prevention in South Sudan.

The Ministry of Health, the UN and partners have been working collectively to carry out activities in high-risk locations to prevent the spread of Ebola to South Sudan.

They also have been working hard to enhance readiness to respond in the event of an outbreak.
