The Embassy of Canada in South Sudan calls for a thorough investigation of the reported sexual violence on women and girls in Bentiu, Unity State.

The embassy in statement extended to CRN on Tuesday wants a commitment to bring those responsible to justice.

“The Embassy of Canada is deeply concerned by reports of rape and sexual assault, beating and robbery of approximately 150 women near Nhialdu and Guit, Bentiu,, read part of the statement.

The mission joins the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General and many voices globally in calling for a focus on the needs of the survivors.

The embassy says the issue requires immediate reflection on how sexual and gender-based violence continues to challenge the full promise of South Sudan.

It calls on all parties to challenge violence against the women and girls of South Sudan.
