The peace deal South Sudan government and opposition signed does not address the root cause of the war, says the new Enough Project policy report published on Thursday.

Director of Policy at the Enough Project, John Prendergast, in his report warns that the September 12 peace deal will only provide a short-term stopgap to the conflict.

The report points out that the deal ensures that very little will change in South Sudan.

It points out that the leaders who will come to power will continue to enrich themselves at the expense of their country.

Brian Adeba, Deputy Director of Policy at the Enough Project, said the power-sharing agreements proved to be inadequate short-term for systemic challenges to governance.

It is important that South Sudanese leaders continue negotiating long-term solutions that directly address the causes of the conflict.
