The South Sudan Civil Society Forum urges President Salva Kiir, Dr Riek Machar and all political leaders to have “unreserved honesty and responsibility in the peace process”.
 
The Forum in a statement, reminds the leaders of their obligations to end the conflict and create the environment necessary for reconciliation and implementation of the agreement.
 
It urges the leaders to leave their bitter past behind and create a future that restores hope and dignity to all South Sudanese within and outside the country.
 
It acknowledges that the bitter past should serve only as lessons rather than references.
 
The Forum calls for citizens’ agenda for the face-to-face meeting between the President and Dr Machar in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
 
It stresses the need for a peaceful and sustainable solution to end the suffering of the people and a meaningful reconciliation.
 
The South Sudan Civil Society Forum demands a meeting with other opposition political leaders and civic groups.
 
It wants the two principals to have joint public events and assure the people of South Sudan that they will not repeat the incident of July 2016.
 
The Forum welcomes the progress in the Khartoum talks in the pursuit of genuine peace in the country.
