Pregnant mothers in Torit are irregular in visiting health facilities which led to increase in maternal mortality rate in the state, says State Director of Health.
Elijo Lomoru Tahir told Radio Emmanuel that they discovered bad maternal mortality indicators for women despite inadequate services in facilities.
There is no clear statistic for the cases registered from the beginning of this year, he explains.
Many pregnant women are not visiting health facilities due to long distance and discouragement from health workers at the centers, Lomoru adds.
He advises pregnant women not to deliver at home because the health statuses of traditional birth attendance and the environment are not healthy for the baby.
Atto Siama, a member of Mother’s Union, notes that women avoid delivering in the hospital due to charges like give sweets, or soap.
The speakers were talking to Radio Emmanuel in Torit during the workshop of team leaders of health workers on Tuesday.
