The head of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan has announced launching nationwide essay competition for students to promote peace.

Addressing the International Women’s Day commemoration in Juba on Thursday, David Shearer said the competition seeks to empower women to contribute to durable peace in the Country.

Shearer notes that the competition is going to be offered to all secondary school’s students registered by the government across the country.

Shearer explains that without genuine inclusion of women at every level being the national dialogue or the high-level revitalization forum, the chances of peace will be greatly diminished.

Women during the international women’s day in Juba have called for an end to sexual and gender-based violence against women in South Sudan.
