A network of youths together with other civil society groups organized a march through the streets of Juba in support for separation of southern Sudan in the 2011 referendum. The participants chanted "No for unity, yes for separation" as they marched from Juba Football Stadium to Dr. John Garang Mausoleum. T-shirts, caps, and banners bearing the inscription Youth for Separation were distributed to the participants that attended the occasion. SCR News reporter talked with Mr. David Ladu, a participant at the march. He said the 2011 referendum was important because it would give southerners the opportunity to decide for a separate state. Bashir Bandi, House Controller of Southern Sudan Legislative Assembly, said southern Sudan did not enjoy any equality since its creation. Mr. Bandi explained that it was time to decide for their future destiny with a clear and objective vision of a separate state with total freedom, equality, and justice. Mr. Bandi said southerners needed to move away of being second class citizens to a new state with equal opportunities and freedom for all. The population in Juba turned up in great numbers at the Referendum March.
