The government of Western Equatoria State organized on Monday a one-day workshop for the communities to scrutinize the drafted bill protecting girl child education in the state.

County representatives were invited to discuss the draft before sending it to the state legislative assembly for endorsement, Anisa FM reported.

Governor Joseph Bangasi Bakosoro urged participants to thoroughly scrutinize the bill, because after it becomes law, offenses will be regulated in court to minimize school dropout among girls.

He added that the state wanted to have more educated than illiterate people by 2015 in the state.

Deputy Speaker Lona Bona said once the bill is endorsed, the law must take its course against whoever impregnates pupils to minimize dropouts that are rampant.

She stressed that the implementation of the bill is paramount to protect girls’ education in the state and no one should be above the law.

County commissioners, directors, local chiefs and women attended the workshop that took place at the State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology in Yambio.
